How many times have you been on a message board and noticed a topic entitled “why isn’t anyone else excited for [insert name of game]”? I know I’ve seen it often enough and I expect you have too. But it’s a valid point. There are so many potentially great games that simply get swept under the carpet by the bigger, more established titles.

Let’s take a look at Resistance 2 for the Playstation 3. Prior to the unexpected release of some exciting new information, the second in the sci-fi shooter series from Insomniac was largely forgotten about. But why? From the moment the game was announced we should have realized its potential. Resistance: Fall of Man was a great game and came from a great developer. We all saw how superb their first attempt at a next gen game was, so why didn’t we get all excited when number two was announced?

I’m as guilty as anyone – more so if anything. Not only was I not that excited but I chose to ignore the game's announcement entirely. I was too busy being interested in things like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Grand Theft Auto 4 to worry about the sequel to a game I had enjoyed a while back, but subsequently got a bit bored of. I simply was not fussed. And sadly for the developers, nor apparently were most gamers. Had you asked a Playstation 3 owner to list the games they were most looking forward to in 2008, I doubt very many would have said Resistance 2. In fact, it's not even on our "Most Anticipated" poll, so that should tell you something. But ask gamers today about it, and it may be a different story.

The release of the latest Game Informer magazine heralded a flood of new information, and with it, a tide of newly invigorated gamers. I won’t divulge all the details, suffice to say that you would be hard pressed to find a negative aspect.

There really is no denying it. The game sounds awesome. Have you ever heard of 60 players online in a first person shooter before? And what about the “partially randomized geometry” – they did it in the original Halo but it’s rarely been seen since (which is a shame because it’s a great feature). It basically means that you could play the same level 20 times in one day and it would be different each time; be it more trees, a creek bed or a huge boulder that wasn’t there before.

It’s shaping up to be a revolutionary title, with various sources already claiming it will be one of the biggest titles of the year.

So am I a hypocrite for suddenly jumping on board? Probably, but who cares! Just look at the screen shots below and keep your eyes right here. We'll have more info as it becomes available.
